Thee Silver Mt. Zion is a mostly instrumental Montreal chamber rock group of musicians from Godspeed You Black Emperor!, including GYBE! guitarist Efrim (who focuses more on piano in this band), violinist Sophie, bassist Thierry, and guests. Efrim began writing the music in early 1999 and A Silver Mt. Zion played their first show in early March of that year. The group -- along with occasional guests Aidan (drummer, also of Godspeed and Exhaust), Gordon Krieger (clarinetist in Exhaust), and guitarist Sam Shalabi -- began recording A Silver Mt. Zion's debut album by November. He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corners of Our Rooms was released in March 2000 on the independent Montreal imprint Constellation, also home to GYBE! albums.

Hannah Marcus is a songwriter from New York City Her upcoming CD, as well as her most recent album "Desert Farmers, "were both recorded in Montreal with members of the group Godsped You Black Emperor and A Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orkestra. Her last two albums, Black Hole Heaven and Desert Farmers, were released on Bar None Records. Black Hole Heaven was recorded in San Francisco by Tim Mooney (of Toiling Midgets and American Music Club) and Joe Goldring (The Enablers). Her previous CD, Faith Burns, was released by Normal records in Germany and produced by Joe Goldring. River Of Darkness, her first project, was produced by Mark Kozelek. He also produced her first demos, which were released on Spirit records and Normal records. She also currently participates in The Wingdale Community Singers with Rick Moody,David Grubbs, Nina Katchedourian and Abe Streep.
