Lake Street Dive
Lake Street Dive
Since Lake Street Dive's February 2016 release of Side Pony on Nonesuch Records the band has been a tour de force, hitting some major career milestones.  They were invited to play at the White House, sold out 42 shows in 2016 throughout the United States and were musical guests on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Today Show.  Lake Street Dive was featured on Chris Thile’s hosting debut of A Prairie Home Companion, among many other high points that include sold-out shows at the iconic venues like the Wang Theatre in Boston and Radio City Music Hall in New York.

The quartet’s live shows have been widely praised by publications such as Billboard, saying Lake Street Dive successfully combined “Amy Winehouse, Rita Hayworth and R&B charisma,” and Rolling Stone called their album Side Pony, produced by Grammy winner Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell) “irresistible.”  Upon its release the album was #1 on the Alternative chart and #11 on the Billboard Album Sales chart.

The title Side Pony takes its name from a song on the record that refers to a whimsical hairstyle, but it also serves as a metaphor for Lake Street Dive’s philosophy and personality as a band. As bassist Bridget Kearney puts it, “When we were settling on the album title, that one just stuck out to us as embodying the band’s spirit. We’ve always been this somewhat uncategorizable, weird, outlying, genre-less band. That’s the statement we wanted to make with this record: be yourself.”
Joey Dosik
When asked about the people that played on the recently released EP "Where Do They Come From?", Joey describes his comrades as "top notch musicians and people." The core of the group is made up of some of Dosik's best friends and greatest collaborators. Josh Lopez (www.facebook.com/joshua.lopez.140) is a force to be reckoned with on the guitar in any group he plays in, JP Maramba (www.facebook.com/jpmaramba) provides the most solid foundation in the low frequency spectrum, and Mike G (www.facebook.com/cymbalguy) brings an immediate signature sound to all his endeavors. Together the group has created a cohesive sound that is both fresh and timeless. Some of the guest artists to grace the recording are Gabe Noel aka Janitor (www.mp3d0wnl0ad.com) playing bass on one track as well as cello on two tracks. Joey says about Janitor, "he's one of my favorite artists that I've ever met in my life." Gabe's new project Thelma and Janitor is something special to keep an eye out for. Another great addition to the EP is Miguel Atwood-Ferguson who plays a string arrangement on one of Joey's tracks. Dosik describes Miguel as "a total beacon of light in this city and definitely the most inspiring artist I have ever met in my life." His presence on the album has brought together years of a developing musical relationship as well as an everlasting friendship. Finally, not on the record itself, but a long time comrade and constant source of inspiration to Dosik is Theo Katzman (www.facebook.com/theokatzmanmusic). Joey describes Theo as his brother in arms, and says that Theo has been his greatest inspiration to get this music out. Both as a friends as well as a collaborators, Katzman and Dosik have a long and fruitful future together. With this kind of talent and support behind this incredible artist the sky is truly the limit.
