Japanese cult favorite sludge/doom rock trio Boris take their name from a song on grunge godfathers the Melvins' "Bullhead" album. They also have a lot in common with the Melvins musically, including a fondness for heavily down tuned guitar/bass tones and exceedingly slow tempos. But they also incorporate elements variously drawn from other sources, including psychedelic rock, punk, noise, minimalism, pure sludge-drone music Ã la Earth, and more.

Everything listed can be tied in some way to Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang, whose careers started with modest goals but grew to incorporate one of the most influential bands of the â€˜80â€™s, a much venerated publishing company, collaborations with some of the most talented rock musicians playing today and, most recently, the christening of their very own record label. Then again, one also canâ€™t forget Damonâ€™s side work as a published critic and poet, as well as Naomiâ€™s sublime graphic work and photography. The duo are artists in the most fully expressed sense of the word.
