O'Death

  • The boys in O'Death come from all over the Eastern Seaboard, but got together in 2003 while they were attending the State University of New York in Purchase, NY. They use folk styles — primarily bluegrass and old-time music — for a foundation, but punk, grunge, swing, rock, metal, and jazz figure heavily in their arrangements. The original members were drummer David Rogers-Berry and singer/guitarist Greg Jamie. Rogers-Berry approached Jamie after he finished a solo songwriter gig and suggested forming a gothic folk band. Rogers-Berry learned to play drums as a child, and his manic folk-punk style is one of the foundations of the band's sound. With Jamie's unruly vocals — an inspired blend of singing, talking, and screaming — the stage was set for a unique blend of alt-rock and hardcore traditional music.

Ponytail

  • A four-piece multi-style rock act that drew comparisons to Deerhoof and Ecstatic Sunshine, Ponytail released its first slab of infectious sugar fueled two guitar trad punk (Kamehameha — on Creative Capitalism) in January of 2007. The Baltimore, Maryland quartet featured drummer Jeremy Hyman, guitarist Ken Seeno, other guitarist (and Ecstatic Sunshine member) Dustin Wong, all fronted by the vast array of sounds that was vocalist Molly Siegel. Winning critical praise for their hyper noisy live show that evoked elements of heavy duty riffage, yells, growls, art-rock, surf rock, ska, and Indian war chants, the outfit of youngsters appeared at the South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas in the early part of 2008. Their second album, Ice Cream Spiritual, was due out in June of 2008 on We Are Free records.

The Usaisamonster

  • Like an angrier, beefier version of the White Stripes, the longhaired pair behind USAISAMONSTER remind us of the sheer volume that can be made by two people (hint: it's a lot). The duo's albums have shown a marked progression in style, expanding upon the bands noisy No Wave sound in careful steps.

Woods

  • Wanting to explore their alternative folk side, bandmates Jeremy Earl and Christian DeRoeck from the Brooklyn indie rock outfit Meneguar gathered up some friends and went into the woods to play. Hence, the band Woods was born. After releasing a double cassette on Earl's Fuck It Tapes, At Rear House on Shrimper Records in early 2007
